Men
The most well-known pattern of hair loss is a thinning crown or receding hair line. Due to the presence of a derivative or by-product of testosterone called dihydrotestosterone (DHT) hair loss happens. This hormone can contract the hair follicles and has a larger effect in the mid-anterior scalp and temples. Some categories of male hair loss are:
Chronic Diffuse Alopecia – can happen because of nutritional, metabolic or endocrine matters.
Acute diffuse alopecia – occurs from physical or psychological reasons such as hormones, nutritional shortages or medications.
Androgenetic Alopecia – occurs because of genetic sensitivity to male hormones. This hardly ever affects women.

Hair shedding is normal part of its cycle. 100 of hairs falling per day is normal, rather if it doesn’t shed or exceeds more than 125 hairs is condition to observe well. A single strand of hair usually lives for 4 years in average. Hair loss occurs due to many different reasons. Where as women also face pattern baldness from the sides and thinning of hair is observed which indicates that they are also losing hair.

Though hair loss is also very much associated with hormonal changes. But external some other reasons may also cause hair loss like climate change, water, dryness or any other change in environmental influence. Hair loss anyhow doesn’t happen due to disease, but it is a result of ageing, hereditary or the testosterone. Both men and women pattern baldness have similar factors that are unlike more or less. Hair loss reasons may include number of factors among which the prominent ones are Alopecia Areata- that is bald patches seen on the hair places like scalp, beard and eyebrows, in some cases eye lashes also fall.

All of us, men and women, have a hair legacy which we need to preserve. Hair loss is often misunderstood.  Hair is often regarded as a reflection of health.  On average we have 100,000 to 150,000 hairs.  People are sensitive about the quality of their hair. Very recent research has made it possible for science to understand the secret life of hair, from its birth to death.

Hair Physiology

MELANOCYTES: these cells supply the pigments which give hair its color. DERMAL PAPILLA: play a vital role in supplying the scalp with blood. HAIR FOLLICLE: this is a double sheath which anchors hair in the epidermis and dermis. SEBACEOUS GLAND: this gland helps keep hair permanently lubricated. HORRIPILATE MUSCLE: this muscle makes hair bristle in cases of stress. HAIR STEM: composed entirely of keratin-packed cells. CORTEX: hair color is determined by melanin located in the center of the hair stem in the cuticle (keratin filaments make up the structure of the cuticle). BULB: each hair is implanted in the skin by means of a bulb which is produced by a rich and important area, the matrix. MATRIX: a hair production workshop, the matrix allows germinal cells to divide rapidly so that older, keratinised cells are pushed outwards. The hair stems originate here.
